                                                                                                                      Edward John Gies
                                                                                                                          1891 - 1970

Edward was born on 6 Nov 1891 to Edward GIES and Mary KUHN and they resided at 46 Jerry Street in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was very hard-working. His primary employment was with the Cleveland Railways driving an electric streetcar with the title of
motorman.   This was a private company, becoming Cleveland Transit System and then Regional Transit Authority.
He drove long hours and remained in the company's employment until retirement.  He worked out of the transit company's garage
located at State and Pearl Rds. in Cleveland, Ohio.  Places of his residence included 3912 Woburn Ave. Cleveland in 1918, and
then 1600 Auburn Ave in 1922, and at 3119 Saratoga Ave, Cleveland in 1936, 1937 and again in 1942.  Grandpa Edward was an
                            orphan at St. Anthony Orphanage
between 1903 and 1910He lived there after his father Edward GIES passed away in 1902.
In speaking with Aunt Dorothy his daughter, I was told the orphanage was St. Anthony on Detroit Rd in Cleveland, OH.  Investigation
finds this orpahnage was located on Detroit Rd near the former St. John Hospital.
He was probably there since his father died at a
young age and possibly his mother was not financially able to take care of him and his brother Anthony.  He was reunited with his
brother and mother after she remarried.  His funeral was arranged by Zabor Funeral Home at 5690 Pearl Rd. Parma Hts,Ohio.
Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel November 26,1970 at 930am and he is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery,
Brookpark Road, Cleveland, Ohio.  He was grandfather to 12 and great-grandfather to 6 according to his obituary.
